7 Months Old!

Gavin is now 7 months old! He has accomplished so much in just one month. Let's start with his stats, he did not have a doctor's appointment this month, so we are guessing on his height and weight....I'd say he is about 18.5 pounds, and 27 inches long. So, are you ready for updates?

Let's start with solids! Gavin is finally eating his solids, and he loves them! So far he has tried carrots, sweet potatoes, applesauce, peaches, bannanas, squash, and now green beans! Of course we are following the 4 day wait rule, and no allergies yet! We started with 1 time per day, and now he is up to eating 3 times a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. He eats about 1-2 tablespoons of oatmeal, and 1-2 tablespoons of a fruit and veggie at each meal. His favorite this far, I think it has to be either sweet potatoes or peaches. While eating his solids, Gavin now drinks water from his SIPPY CUP! Yes people, a sippy cup! It is so cute, he holds it with both hands and drinks his water between bites. He also holds his own bottle. Mr. Independent!

Another new thing we have tried this month is a teething feeder, I will tell you what moms and dads out there, this thing is a big hit! He loves it! You can put any fruit or veggie in this little mesh bag, and then twist on the handle, and away he goes, he sucks all of the juices out of them, and may even get some small little pieces of fruit. We have put fresh peaches and strawberries in it so far, but wow, is it messy. See the pictures below of Gavin gumming on some peaches from his teething feeder.




Gavin is now sitting up on his own. We witnessed the entire act via the video monitor. Gavin was in his crib this past Saturday morning, laying there just hanging out as he usually does, and we watched him continue to try to push himself from a laying position to a sitting position. He did not give up, he continued trying for about 5 minutes, and bam, he did it! Now.... watch out, you lay him down in his crib, and the second you turn around he is sitting up. It is not making naptime very easy right now. I think since he has learned something new he wants to continue to practice whether it is naptime or not.

Crawling, it has not happened yet, but I guarantee you will be reading a blog post within the next few weeks announcing his success! He is on his hands and knees, rocking and ready to go!

Oh yeah, last thing, Gavin waves "bye-bye," it is to cute, he waves towards himself, and Chris and I swear we have heard him repeat "bye-bye," once or twice! So, bye-bye for now, we will keep you posted!

H1N1 Vaccine???

Chris and I have been struggling with the idea of getting Gavin vaccinated against the flu, and the H1N1 flu virus. It is such a tough decision. One side of me says I should do it, to do what is best for my son, and protect him from these viruses. But, do I feel this way because this is what "everyone else" says? The other side says, absolutely not. The H1N1 vaccine is so new, and was developed so quickly, how do they really know the long term effects it could have on our children? Do I really want to inject my child with a virus, to prevent him from getting the virus? He is not even in daycare, or around a lot of different people where he could get sick, but I am. I work in a school, where kids are getting sick every day, could I bring this home to him? What to do!!

First Tooth!

Gavin's first tooth has officially arrived. After what seemed like months of excessive drooling and chewing on everything, it finally decided to break through the gums.

We would have never known that it came through, but Grandma Bush had stuck her finger in there to check it out, and there it was! She could feel the little points. Gavin won't let us get a picture of it quite yet, so stay tuned.

Official date of Gavin's first tooth: September 6th, 2009.

Labor Day Weekend 2009

We headed back home to NY for Labor day this past weekend. It was CRAZY as usual, very BUSY! We arrived Thursday night, around 9:30, by plane (Gavin did great on the plane once again, my prediction is that he will be a world traveler when he gets older. He really did not sleep much on the plane, he sat on our laps, and played for the majority of the time) Anyways, we stayed at Nani Debbie's house Thursday night, and for part of the day on Friday. Gavin spent time with Nani, Aunt Vicki, and then Kali and Maddi came over and spent lots of time with their favorite cousin.

Then, we headed off to Grandma and Grandpa Bush's house. When we arrived, it was out the door to Cheesecake Factory for dinner with the Bush family, Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Justin, Danita, Nathanial, and us of course. We spent the night there that night, and Grandma and Grandpa took full advantage of their time with Gavin.


Saturday, it was off to Great Grandma Bush's house to visit in the morning. There we saw Gavin's Great Grandma Bush, and his Great Aunt Dawn. Then, we headed back to Batavia, to Uncle Matt's and Aunt Niko's house for a Labor Day Picnic. It was a great day, where we were sorrounded by lots of family and friends! Thank you Uncle Matt, Aunt Niko, and Nani, for putting on such a great picnic so Gavin could see everyone.


Sunday, it was back to Grandma and Grandpa Bush's house for some more Gavin time. Grandma Bush made Gavin some pretty cool hats, see below! There, we ordered pizza, and hung out for the day, then after a few hours, we hopped back in the car to Crystal's house, so mommy could get her hair done, and we could visit with her.


Monday, 7am, off to the airport to head back home. Needless to say, it was a great trip, being able to see everyone, but wow, we did not slow down, we were absolutely exausted when we got home!
