11 Months Old!

11 months old, Gavin is 1 month away from being a 1 year old! My little baby is growing up so fast!

Stats: No 11 month doctor's appointment this month. However, we have been to the doctor a couple of times. Once, for a sinus infection, and then again the other day for a fever, which ended up being due to teething (which I figured, but wanted to be sure). Anyhooo... Gavin is weighing in at about 23 lbs, and he is certainly getting taller.



Eating: Gavin has his on and off days in the eating department. One day he will eat anything we put in front of him, and the next he may not eat anything. I think a lot of this is due to teething or just the newness of it all. At times, he will not even try something, he will just throw it on the floor, or hand it to the doggies (he loves to feed the dogs)! We give him pretty much everything these days, besides the foods they say to stay away from due to allergies, i.e. peanut butter. But, you never know whether he is going to eat it or not. We really want him to start eating foods that we are eating, and get him away from the baby food (he really does not seem to like some of the baby food dinners, just the veggies and fruits). I guess we will just let him decide when and what he wants to eat. We can always count on him eating his puffs, at least we know he is not going to starve!

Teething: Gavin has 6 teeth now. His two top lateral incisors broke through just the other day. If you are wondering what the lateral incisors are, they are the ones on the sides of the two front teeth. This time he definitely had some teething symptoms. Lots of drool, a 101 temperature, cranky, and lots of chewing. He actually was chewing on his crib rail, it actually looks as if a beaver went crazy on it! We could not believe it, because he rarely is in there awake! So, we had to go to the baby store today to get a rail protector, it sticks to the rail of the crib, so he chews on something soft, instead of chewing the wood. I just can't imagine that feeling good on his gums!

Milestones: As you have probably seen on the blog, GAVIN IS WALKING! He started off with a few steps, and he is now literally just standing up and walking from one place to another. He has had a few spills (you can see some of the marks on his face from some falls on his picture, ouch). He is a wild man, he actually looks as though he is trying to run at times. This is definitely a scary time for us, I just want to surround the house with pillows for his falls, and we are preparing ourselves for lots of them! Let's see.... he is also able to identify certain things in the house when we ask him where they are, for example we say "where is the fan?" he points to the ceiling fan, or "where are the doggies?", and he will point to the doggies. He is feeding himself a lot of different finger foods these days, climbing the stairs, and also brushing his own teeth with daddy in the morning. I know I am probably missing a ton of things, but for some reason I am drawing a blank right now (the walking thing has just taken over!)

A little extra news for this month... as you all know Gavin's 1st birthday is coming up on the 25th of February. We have decided to go with a monkey theme for his 1st birthday, we are so excited! Grandma's and Grandpa's will all be there, along with Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and a lot of close friends. We are in the planning process as we speak, this is a one of the biggest days in our little boy's life, and we are going to make it very special for him. Stay tuned for pics!

First Steps!

Gavin took his first steps today!!!!! It was so exciting, and he did it when I got home from work. I love how he waits for his mommy, he wants to be sure that I do not miss any of his firsts! I walked in from work and he was playing on the floor with Aunt Amy. When I walked over to him to give him his kiss, he was standing, and he literally just "walked" right out of Amy's hands to me. He took 3 steps... and we just both sat there in amazement! Then, of course, we started screaming and congratulating Gavin. When daddy arrived home, Gavin showed off his skills by taking 4 steps to him out of my arms. After those couple of times, Gavin was over it, and decided that crawling was easier.

I am not sure what these few steps mean in the walking department, but I have a feeling it is coming sooner than later!

10 Months Old

Gavin turned 10 months old on Christmas Day! He really was not in the mood to pose for his 10 month picture...I think he was a little overwhelmed by the whole 1st Christmas thing going on, and this had to have been his 100th photo taken that day. I would be a little over it myself.

Stats: No ten month appointment with Dr. Smoak this month, so we are going to guess on his weight again. We are thinking about 22lbs... He is getting big, and even has that double chin like his dad.

Eating: Gavin has no problem in this department, except when he is feeling a little under the weather, which he has been for the past couple of weeks. He seems to like just about everything he eats, except asparagus and broccoli (update: we had broccoli tonight and he liked it). He has been eating the stage 3 foods, like chicken and vegetables, chicken noodle soup, beef and rice, spaghetti, etc., and seems to enjoy them (not sure how, yuck!), but we are starting to also introduce alot of "real food." Gavin is very independent, and in the past month he has really shown the interest in feeding himself. We started with the finger foods such as puffs, teething cookies, and all of those other products made by baby food companies, but now we have started giving him things like toasted wheat bagels with a little bit of jelly, waffles, pancakes, chicken (small pieces), pizza crust, pieces of banana, toast, and more. He really likes to be given the chance to do it on his own, and of course, we are always close by monitoring his every bite. Oh yeah, and he really enjoys feeding the dogs when he is finished.

Teething: No new updates on the teething really. He still has four teeth, two on the top and two on the bottom. I feel like he is always teething, with the drooling, biting, chewing and runny nose, but haven't seen any new ones pop through those gums in about a month.

Milestones: Gavin is just cruising right along in this department, literally. He is a serious crawler, he moves so fast, you can't take your eyes off of him. Here is the list of what we have seen in the past month:

• standing on his own,while clapping and dancing
• cruising, this is where he will "cruise" from one piece of furniture to another by walking and holding on to something
• walking using his sit to push lion (video coming in the near future)
• says DaDa (no mama yet....sniff, sniff)
• he is a kissing bandit, kissing everything and everyone in sight
• feeding himself finger foods
• when he drops something, he will look for it under the furniture
• gets angry when you take something away from him
• hands toys to you, sharing
• understands no, however does not consistently obey its meaning (i.e. when he heads for the dog bowls, we say "no" he stops.. looks at us...waits... laughs... crawls faster to get to them)
• recognizes certain songs, and will clap and dance
• climbs the stairs (with supervision of course)
