Chris is such a handyman

Chris recently put a backsplash in behind the stovetop. It was the first time he installed one of these, he did a great job! He is such a hard worker!

Uncle Justin's Visit

Uncle Justin came to meet Gavin for the first time. He came with his girlfriend Danita and her son Nathanial. We had a good time! We spent a lot of time at the lake at Uncle Adam's and Aunt Renee's house. Her are some pictures of Gavin with Uncle Justin and at the lake. We bought him some shades!! Doesn't he look cool!

2 months old!

Gavin is growing so fast! We had our 2 month visit today with the Smoakster (Dr. Smoak) and, wow is he growing! He is 13lbs, and 23 and 1/2 inches long, now putting him in the 75th percentile for his height and weight. The doctor was very impressed by his strength and how well he was able to follow him with his eyes. Yup, more shots.... I had to mentally prepare myself two days before the appointment this time. He had to have 2 in the leg, and one of the vaccines was oral. Again, he was very upset, but he seemed to calm down pretty easily, me on the other hand, again, a wreck! I am really questioning all of these vaccines. I am not the expert, so I should listen to the doc, however, there are so many different opinions out there, it worries me. Any information anyone can share with me is welcome, regarding vaccines! I am doing my research to learn a little more about all of them. Gavin has been sleeping in his crib the past couple of nights. Chris and I really wanted him to stay in the bassinet, in our room, but he is getting to big for it! He is doing well in the crib. He did sleep through the night a couple of times, but I spoke a little to soon in my last blog, it did not last long. I can't complain though, he is sleeping 5-6 hour stretches. We really want to start getting into a routine ( bath, book, eat, sleep), but I think I am jumping the gun on that one, he is only 2 months! The pediatrician said we can start putting him down when he is getting drowsy, awake!! What if he cries?? Am I setting myself up for disaster?? Not sure I can do the crying it out thing yet. Let's see..... We will be going home to meet the family and friends in NY next weekend, so we are very excited about that, I will post some pics when we get back.

2 month Milestones

SMILING!!! Gavin is smiling at us now, it is absolutely amazing! He has a beautiful smile!!

This was the end of one of his smiles, I have a hard time catching it with the camera.....

He is also making a lot of noises now, cooing.....

He has excellent head strength, he is able to lift his head when we have tummy time

I never thought I would be so happy to see 6am!

HE DID IT! Gavin slept through the night for the first time on April 20th! He went down at 11pm and slept until 6am. He has been working up to it, by sleeping 4-5 hour stretches.... and he finally did it. Our next challange will be sleeping in the nursery, we will be taking him out of our room (bassinet), and moving him to his crib. I don't know who it will be harder for, us.... or him????? I will keep everybody posted!

1 month old

At Gavin's one month visit he weighed 10lbs, and was 21 and 1/2 inches! I could not believe it, he is growing so fast! The doctor reassured me that this is normal, and that he falls in the 50th percentile for his height and weight right now! He also received a shot, now this was not his first shot, he received one right when he was born, but I was not mentally aware at the time of that one (lots of meds from the c-section). Anyway, it was the most dreadful thing I had ever experienced, when the nurse poked him with that needle, he gasped for air, and then he let out a cry that just broke my heart. I despised that nurse for hurting my child. I grabbed him and held him for 20 minutes in that little room, I could not let go. I can't believe he has to go through that again and again in future visits....I will be there each time to hold him as long as I have to.

1 month Milestones

Gavin is a very strong little man! When laying on his stomach, he is lifting his head. He loves to look around, stares at lights, and loves to look at the ceiling fans. He is following our voices and when we are standing in front of him, he follows us with his eyes. He is constantly moving his arms and legs, and has even punched his dad in the nose a couple of times. Also, when nursing, he looks up at me, it is an absolutely amazing feeling!!!

A friend of mine told me that her sister takes a photo of her son each month, so she can watch how he grows, and how much he changes. I thought that was a great idea!!! I will be taking a picture of Gavin in our big green chair each month, watch how he grows!! His 1 month photo is above.

Gavin Thomas

On February 25th, 2009 at 4:41am, Chris and I were blessed with the best gift that anyone could ever ask for, a beautiful baby boy! He was 7lbs and 7oz and 19 inches long. It is absolutely amazing how much this one little human has brought to our lives. When he looks at me, I melt, when he cries, I cry, and when he cuddles with me, I hold him as if I will never let go. Chris and I stare at him, and without words, promise him that we will be the best parents we can be, and that we will love and protect him throughout his life. He is our life and our love.
